Garage Update

Based on further input from outside sources there have been a couple of modifications made to the garage.

As you can see in the attached renders, the ceiling height has been increased, it is now 11.5' off the finished floor surface. The garage doors are still 10' x 7.5' however they will be increased to 10' x 9' or 10' x 10' if the space will allow. This should allow for just about anything to be built in here!

The lighting has to be modified slightly with the addition of a new lamp unit running between the garage doors so as not to cut off lighting when one door is open.

The drawings have been started but so far not much has been done on that front.

Site Updates

There have been several updates to the site over the last couple of days.

First up some basic CSS3 has been implemented in the site, for example in the photo gallery things have nice soft rounded edges! To see this you need to have a CSS3 enabled browser (Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Chrome, etc.)

As always, more on the way as things progres.

Hanger Space

Work has basically been stopped on the BearClaw airplane for the last couple of months.

The design of the facility where this airplane is to be built has taken over most spare moments in the day. We are planning to build a two car garage onto the house where this airplane will be built.

As much detail as possible is going into the design of the garage/shop space. Hopefully the construction process for the airplane will go smoothly in this new space!

Images and renders of the garage will be posted here as soon as the site functionality for this is implemented.

Edit:
New renders of garage added.

Go Live Day

So the BearClaw build site is officially live today! Indexing we will go!

So much work needs to be done on this site, it is by no means polished but it is up for anyone interested to stumble across.

Sadly very little progress has happened on the modeling to date. It has been several months of house repairs, renovations, deck building and hanger (garage) design.

An integral part to this project as with any project of this nature, is the location in which it will be built. To this extent we need to add a garage to our house. The recent couple of months have been consumed with the design process for this garage. The complete design will be posted on this site eventually as part of this project and for any other people in the same boat.

Here's to building!

The BearClaw

This project started, much like any one else in this game, we wanted an airplane.

The first step was to lay out a list of requirements for our airplane. Much negotiation, compromise and curtailing happened while my wife and I hammered out the details of what we would like.

We looked at various different kits, but the up front costs were to much for our budget at this stage in life. Initially we considered offerings from the likes of CompAir, Murphy Moose, and several other kits. We eliminated the CompAir products as we had no desire to learn the fine art of composites. The other kits were quite costly for what we needed.

Basically our list of requirements are:
- Safe
- Four seater
- Large load capacity
- Float capable
- Plans built

After agreeing that plans built was the way to go for us, this limited the field significantly. In the end there is really only one airplane that fit the requirements and that was the Bob Barrows designed Bearhawk.

Edit:
Added new render of internal wing structure.
